Social media: A watchdog or a conspiracy breeder?: COVID-19 disinformation among Iraqi students

The author seeks to determine the scale of conspiracy belief among undergraduate students and their dependency on social media enhance theories. first goal was extent which theories affect how undergraduates explain understand crises events. For example, about secret government cabals controlling Iraqi citizens’ lives other issues. second objective is apply COVID-19 as a case conspiratorial interpretation sprea)d virus through exposure misinformation impacted it. study recruited from snowball sample in two universities Baghdad. Sample size 331 (230 males 101 females) aged 19–24. They were surveyed phone interviews. applied survey research major public shows depend conspiracies media, especially Facebook. Moreover, finds that believe malfeasance. In contrast, many multiple conspiracies, global scientific extraterrestrial coverups, meant cause personal harm. Finally, there no significant difference between females dependence or belief.
